In English the term aborigine is generally reserved for the autocthonous inhabitants of Australia. For all other indigenous people we use the term aboriginal.

____________________________________________________

That is true, but people generally think of "Aborigines" as Native Australians, and "Indians" as North American peoples. Basically, it's politically correct and easier to describe the Native American peoples of North America as just that.

Are there separate schools for aborigines in Australia?

No we don't have a segregated system in Australia. While we don't have a segregrated system, there are some regions that offer Aboriginal schooling, but they are staffed by Europeans. For example, in Alice Springs is Yirara College, a Lutheran-run aborginal boarding school which is government-funded. The students bring some of their cultural traditions with them, often going "walkabout" whenever they feel like it. Similarly, there are all-Aboriginal schools on the Tiwi islands (once Bathurst and Melville Islands). Within other cities, though, there are not separate schools for Aborigines. This seems to be restricted to the Northern Territory.

Why is Charlie Perkins famous in Australia?

Charles Perkins was famous for a number of achievements in Australia. Primarily, he was an indigenous Australian who, against opposition, achieved things which were difficult for Aborigines of the time to access, such as a university education. For example, in 1965, he was one of just two Aboriginal students at the University of Sydney. Whilst there, he did much to raise awareness of the plight of aboriginal people being discriminated against in NSW country towns, organising what became known as the "Freedom Ride", a tour of places such as Moree, Walgett and Kempsey. The Freedom Ride gained national attentions cause it was so widely publicised, and caused riots. Because of his outspoken stance, Perkins became a national Aboriginal leader and spokesman, and achieved a great deal in his campaign for aboriginal rights. In addition, Perkins was a talented soccer player.
