Why is it that when someone is hurt physically a friend or someone who is concerned say are you ok when they are clearly hurt?

It is just an automatic response that society ingrains into people. It is a way to show concern, even if the comment itself is misguided. For some, it is a way to distance themselves from the situation. They can pat themselves on the back for showing phony concern and then go their own way.
