Music is important to the Sikh religion because the vast majority of the followers of Sikh enjoy dance. Dance is a formal form of prayer and worship. Through traditional, ancestral dances that have been passed down since Guru Nanak's time, they believe that God becomes more aware of their wishes through displaying their pure affection for him through using the bodies crafted by him to move.
Biblically, music is a gift from God and stirs emotions. Throughout The Bible, there are instances where singing and music was included in worship. The temple in Jerusalem had designated singers among the servants there. (Nehemiah 12:27-30) The largest book of the Bible is Psalms, which is basically a huge songbook of prayers, praises, and poems. Many of them were written by King David, who was a musician and played the harp so beautifully, that his predecessor (King Saul) took him in as part of his household so he could hear him play. (1 Samuel 16:18-23)
There is always caution though in this world, because just as music can stir good emotions and bring praise to God, it can also be used to do the opposite. (1 John 5:19)
