One of the reasons may perhaps be that the engine is still holding your old coolant. You could either start the engine for half a minute with the radiator drain plug open, or manually turn the water pump / drive belt to try and get the excess fluid out.

The procedure described above will probably not work because most water pump impellers are ABOVE the level of the coolant remining in the engine block....however there is usually a block drain on the lower part of the block which will drain the block completely...Also,you might just have an air pocket in the cooling system - look for a air bleed screw ususally located on the thermostat housing.

try taking out the thermostat and have you put to much oil and coolant in the radiator
