The first thing you must do is to turn the pump off and make sure it won;t come on while you have the feeder lid off. !!!! The second thing you want to do is make sure you do not inhale the chlorine gas that has accumulated within the tank as the lid is released. !!!! There is an o-ring or gasket within the lid or at the upper most outer rim of the feeder tank. This o-ring gets brittle with age and affects of the chlorine fumes. Determine the model and look for a replacement - get an extra one and keep in a cool dry place. Replace the o-ring using a silicone grease or at minimum vaseline on the o-ring. The o-ring should fit fairly snugly on the lip of the canister or sit within the lid without falling out. It may be possible that you will have to replace the o-ring yearly. Also while the lid is off check it for cracks. Replace the lid with the new o-ring installed and check for leaks.

Hayward Why is DE getting in your pool?

broken filter grid

How do you start up a hayward ec-65 DE filter?

Turn on the pump and put in some DE. Or clean it with filter cleaner and re-assemble then turn ont he pump and add DE.

Why would the DE powder go straight through the filter and into the pool with an old Hayward DE filter ReGenX system?

Something is allowing the DE to pass through the filter - probably a hole in one of the filter pads or a damaged manifold. You can take out the filter pads and visually check them. A hole will be fairly obvious.

On hayward pool filter Gauge reads 21 and the jets not working properly?

Sounds like your filter needs to be cleaned: DE < BUY THE FITER CLEANER> SAND: GET NEW SAND CARTRIDGE: BUY THE FILTER CLEANER

Is regular DE better than DE alternatives such as purfiber or aqua pearl for use in a 72 sq ft Hayward DE filter?

I prefer Aqua Perl. It worked for me for many years and found it superior to D. E. and others. Just wondering why you have a 72 sq. ft. filter. What size is the pump in Hp? Got the feeling that your pump and filter are not matched to the size to the pool. Ken

Where and how do you apply the DE to the pool filter?

Start by cleaning the entire filter. Disassemble and hose off the grids. Without this process you are just guessing as to what is already in the filter. Reassemble. The formula is usually on all DE bags . . . you have to know the square footage of the filter. This is usually stated on the name plate of the filter. Such as 36 sq.ft; 48 sq.ft.; With Hayward it is usually 4800;3600 etc. An easy to remember formula would be take the sq. ft, divide by 5, this answer will tell you how many cans or scoops of DE are dumped into the skimmer. Example: 48 div. by 5 = 10 rounded off. Note: if your filter is more than 1 yr old ~ your filter will have a residual of old DE left in the tank after each Back Wash ~ it never totally removes all the old DE and dirt during a B/W ~ this accumulates so that is why you clean out the filter tank. This formula will give you an even and uniform coating on all grids ~ the DE is what is doing the filtering not the cloth grids. k

Why does the pressure in my Hayward DE filter lose Pressure so quickly?

Have you maintained the water level in the pool? Could be a suction leak. Check the pump lid gasket for correct fit. Have you emptied the pump or skimmer baskets lately? Ken

How do you clean an extremely murky pool with a DE Filter without constantly having to bump and drain the filter?

If you're trying to clear up a murky pool, then the only option you have is to filter, back-wash, and add more DE and filter, BW, add more DE, until the water is clear.Try to scoop out as much debris out of the water as you can, top and bottom, and keep the bottom drain clear. You may be able to do a partial drain and refill.

How do you backwash a de filter AT8230?

You don't. you remove the large lock ring around the filter housing, separate the top from the bottom. Lift out the filter element. Hose it off. Clean out the bottom of the tank. Put filter back in tank. Put lock ring back on the filter and tighten it unitil it Locks. Done.

How does a DE filter work on a pool?

Simply put, Diatomaceous Earth (DE) are the bones of tiny little animals that lived millions and millions of years ago, diatoms. This DE is used to coat the "grids" inside the DE filter which captures and filters particles as small as 5 microns. When the filter pressure rises, the swimming pool DE filter is backwashed in the same manner as a sand filter. A slurry of DE is put into the skimmer to "recharge" or "re-coat" the grids of these swimming pool DE filters. This type of filter is effective and efficient but a little more expensive to maintain. Some call it the "water polisher" of pool filters.

Is a cartridge filter better than a DE Filter?

A DE filter will filter finer particles. It also depends on the application. Some cities are not allowing DE filters to be back washed into their sewer systems within city limits. (Calif) k

Why is my pool cloudy?

Any particles in your pool can cause cloudiness - for example, dead algae. To eliminate it, most pool stores sell a "clarifier" - the one I sell is blue - which will get the particles out of your pool, or "alum" or "floc", which will bind the particles together, making them heavier, dropping them down to the bottom of your pool. You can then vacuum them out with your filter set to waste. If you have a DE filter, and you add a white powder to your skimmer sometimes, it is possible that your filter is leaking DE back into your pool and you need to replace the grids inside it.
