Seems like the battery is not makeing a solid connection. Clean the battery connections with a pencil eraser.
If it is running on the battery only then that means the alternator is not charging the battery.
The battery light indicates the system is not charging. Have the charging system checked. If the alternator is not charging, the engine will quit running and leave you stranded.
bad alternator ? its not charging the battery
No , for the battery to be charged the engine must be running . This means that your alternator , if it's functioning properly , is charging the car's battery as the engine is on/running .
Yes, because a bad coil will not allow the engine to run. But if the engine is running then the coil has nothing to do with the alternator charging the battery.
No, this will place a very heavy load on the alternator of the car and may result in burning out the diodes of the car charging the battery. You could easily ruin the alternator. Purchase a battery charger and charge the dead battery with that. Alternators are not made to charge dead batteries.
I kinda wonder that myself...I am running my 12v LED computer fan from a 12v battery pack from my Ryobi drill with the charging cable inserted into the battery...it says its charging, and my fan is running...So, I will see if it doesnt explode...fingers crossed...
As long as the alternator works and your charging system is correct, the new battery will start your truck and keep it running.
If the cause of the dead battery is from the charging system failure, yes.
your alternator charges the battery while the car is running. The alternator actually puts out a higher voltage than 14 volts while it is running, but it is reduced by a voltage regulator (most of which are already built into the alternator housing), to prevent damage and premature death of the vehicles battery. While your car is not running, the alternator is not charging the battery, and the 13.5 volt reading you get is just the measurement of the voltage the battery is holding at that given point.
Age of battery Battery will not hold a charge (check with a volt meter) A fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts (without engine running) If charging system is working properly reading should increase to approx. 13.8-14.2 with engine running. If voltage does not increase with engine running could be a problem with charging system of battery is defective and will not take or hold a charge
The battery light comes on when the alternator is not charging. Changing the battery did nothing. Either put a gauge on the battery to see if it is charging, or while running, disconnet the positive cable from the battery. If the car dies that means the alternator is not charging. Most parts stores will check it for free. Oriely's , Autozone, etc.
