If the engine is a 3.0 liter there is a good chance the valve guides, primarily on the exhaust valves, have dropped down. THis is a great engine however this has been an issue for Mitsubishi and Chrysler as this same engine was used heavily in mini-vans. If your burning oil heavy at idle or when you take your foot off the gas pedal the valve guides are most likely the issue. To repair you would need to remove the heads and replace the valve guides. I should say though it is possible that the valve seals themselves have just worn; if this is the case they can be replaced without removing the heads. You'd need an air compressor and a valve spring compression tool. To do this you'll need to take much of the fron of the engine apart plus remove the cams. While your putting it back together go ahead and replace the timing belt and belt tensioner. I hope this may have helped
i don't know, but mine has about 130,000 miles runs like new and burns a quart every 2-2500 miles. my friend has a 3.5 with 300,000 miles and his burns oil and still runs great...
check the pcv valve
No, that's not normal.
Because it's supposed to. A little bit of oil will slip through the rings and be burnt on all engines...about a quart every thousand miles. That you are using a quart every thousand says to me your engine is nice and tight - gas isn't getting past the rings and diluting the oil.
it's normal for these engines, just check the oil every,1,000 miles if it has over 100,000 miles on it. change the oil every 3,000 miles if using regular oil. Its not
Do you really need a 5.9 liter? It's burning oil, the piston rings are probably going.
It is either burning oil or leaking oil to use 6 quarts in 300 miles. In fact to loose 1 quart every 50 miles you would see lots of smoke. So if you see no smoke then it is leaking. No other explanation.
Within normal limits
For some reason Porsche said in their manuals that it was normal for 1970'S era 911's to use as much as a quart of oil every 680 miles.
it only has 60,000 miles and is a 5.7 engine with ram air
There are two pints in every quart.
did you check for oil leaks?
