because it is!!! get that, ok? You want it cheaper? what a joke! But i still have an answer!!! just look up this question! :P why is nutmeg werid

in ur faaace!

Excuse me, but that a extremely rude response to people who actually want to know the real reason. Nutmeg, is a tropical herb. It takes about 5 years to mature enough for a harvest and the growing spaces for this plant is limited. I hope that was a bit more informational then your other answer.

P.S. Notice how they spelled weird wrong. Godness.....

If you're going to criticize spelling, spell correctly yourself. That being said, I did a bit of research on this for World Studies class, this was my response:

One is the low yield of nutmeg, being around 1000-1500kg per hectare, while spices like the jalapeño pepper can yield about 9000kg per hectare (I wrote about peppers for another question, thus this comparison).

Also, it takes trees seven years to mature, and twenty years to reach maximum production.

In addition, nutmeg is only grown in the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Sumatra; other spices are grown in a much larger geographic region.

Finally, nutmeg has had an exorbitantly high price historically, due to its alleged medicinal properties and ability to ward off the plague.

Plus eating a large amounts of nutmeg can abort a fetus...or kill you.
