in the open circuit test, the high voltage winding is open circuited and the measurements are made on the low winding side i.e, the open circuit test is performed on the L.V side. This is because if the measurements are made on HV side then voltage applied must be large and the current would be unsuitably small, for which the high voltage sources may not be readily available and at the same time the instrument ranges required should be very high, Also the result obtained may not be accurate.

NOTE: iron loss will be same, if measured from either of the winding.

in short circuit test. the low voltage winding is short circuited and the measurements are made on the high voltage winding side i,e,. the sort circuit test is performed on H.V side. This is because if the test is performed on the L.V side, the current will be suitably large for which the instruments used should be of very high ranges. moreover instruments of such high ranges and the auto-transformer capable of handling such high currents may not be readily available.

Why the open and short ckt test of transformer is needed?

The open/short-circuit test on a transformer isn't 'needed'. It's only used if you want to find out the efficiency of a transformer.

What would the results of voltage drop test be if the circuit is open?

voltage drop is zero bcz in open ckt current will be zero

Why do you start with open circuit test?

i hope this may be correct answer but iam not sure this is because if the short circuit test is performed first, because of induction effect some amount of energy is stored in the transformer or motor and while performing the open circuit test there may be a chance of getting error bcz of stored charge as in open circuit test the amount of current is vvv less wnen compared to short ckt by sandeepraj patnala

What is the purpose of a diodes in a circuit?

a diode in a ckt basically acts like a switch!! it acts like a switch in on position i.e a short when forward biased and acts like a open ckt or a swich in off position when it is reversed biased!! its used inanalog circuits to generate different types of waves.........

What is the difference between a open circuit and a close circuit?

In an open circuit, electricity stops. Closed circuit, electricity goes. Therefore, in an open circuit, the electrical appliance cannot work, but in a closed circuit, the electrical appliance can workOpen Circuts are incomplete and Closed Circuts are complete and they let electrons flow through them.Checked by MacMillian MaGraw Hill Science Book.

Why open circuit test is performed on low voltage side?

generally open circuit test is performed on the low voltage side.....not on high voltage side.... becuase on low voltage side, we can apply that low voltage very easily ( i.e with a less amount of source is required)... whereas on high voltage side, we need a large power source in order to apply full voltage... in short circuit test, we will test on high voltage side by keeping Low voltage side being short circuit.because high voltage side needs less current source than low voltage side....

What are the conclusions for using oscilloscope?

if the ckt under test is meeting expectations.

How the synchronous impedence and armature resistance can be determined in a synchronous generator?

synchronous impedance can be calculated by performing oc test and sc test. by oc test, since the armature current is zero Vt=Ef . in short circuit test ,entire emf is consumed in circulating the short circuit current Isc,through the synchronous impedance. Zs=Ef/Isc.= (open ckt. terminal voltage for a certain field current)/(short ckt. current at the same field current)

How do you create essential hazards?

as we know that sequential ckt = combinational ckt + feedback So if we clear the hazards of combinational ckt then also some type of disturbance left in the ckt .That disturbance is known as ESSENTIAL HAZARDS.

Why inductor are used in CKT?

inductor is used in ckt because it will work as controling current device

Open circuit and short circuit test?

Open circuit means the circuit is not continuous . A short circuit is continuous but has a fault connecting between either live to neutral or earth .As result of this we saw that this answer is unsufficent to explain short and open circuit on the other hand you can use this answer also like i did:)

What is the mean of CKT?

CKT is electrician short hand for circuit. A circuit is everything powerd by on circuit breaker
