Religion is important to people since it provides some form of guidance and principles of life. Religion connects people to a supreme being who helps them in the supernatural events of life.
Most people (98% of the world's population) feel that there is something more to life than what we see with our eyes. That belief manifests itself in religion.
Some of the world's religions, along with the percentage of the earth that adheres to them, follow: Christianity (33%), Islam (27%), Buddism (~20%) Hinduism/ Taoism (~15%), traditional paganism (~3%).

∙ 7y agoReligion connects you to the majority of mankind, past and present. No ancient society ever existed that did not believe in the supernatural. Those who dismiss belief may be compared to an astronaut floating away from the lifeline.
Also:
1) Religion may assist you in overcoming peer pressure.
2) Religion will often add to your self-discipline.
3) Religion may provide you with a whole additional layer of education.
4) Religion may provide emotional fortitude, helping one overcome hardships.
5) Religion will provide a sense of identity and a community, with its ambiance and mutual help.
6) Religion provides a life and a sense of purpose.
7) Religion seeks to answer the big questions: How and why am I alive? What does it all mean?
