Slavery has never been a good thing.

Taking into account of what I just said, the only time slavery might be considered a good thing is if in ancient times the choice was being a slave or being killed. In the case of ancient Rome as example, after your nation was defeated by Rome, and you were made a slave ( God forbid ) there might be a chance that one's behavior as a Greek slave tutor, freedom might be offered in due time. This is a stretch however, but in ancient Rome, becoming a freedman was a possibility.

Slavery has existed throughout history due to a combination of factors including economic exploitation, the desire for power and control, and societal norms that have justified the subjugation of certain groups of people. It has been perpetuated by systems that benefit from the forced labor and oppression of others.

Hello, I add, may slavery is not good, but the modified optional slavery is very good and optional, e.g. nursing and baby sitter ... are kinds of modified slavery... it is kind of appreciation another good person more, it is as view formal appreciation for another good person but not submitting for another person, e.g. modefied maid rtelations are from a religion and blessed and better than marriage, e.g. Male may love his modefied maid or secretary... more than his wife.
