Sorry. Sodium polyacrylate doesn't seem to work. Certainly not the way it does with water.
Sigma Aldrich sells it. See the link under Web Links to the left of this answer. They sell several different molecular weights. Just do a search for "sodium polyacrylate" in the product name search tab.
Fab Powder Detergent has Sodium polyacrylate, linear alkylbenzene sulfonates, sodium silicate, sodium toluenesulfonate, sodium carbonate, and sodium sulfate, among other things. The first of these is of moderate concern, as it can cause biodegredation, and the alkylbenzene sulfonates can cause not only skin irritation, but due to the non-specific listing of its contents?æis very suspicious.

The Fortune Teller Fish is made of the same chemical used in disposable diapers, sodium polyacrylate. Sodium polyacrylate will grab onto water molecules that it touches, changing the shape of the molecule. As the molecules change shape, so does the shape of the fish. If you submerge the fish in water, it won't be able to bend when you place it on your hand. If you let the fortune teller fish dry out, it will be good as new.
They wear a diaper made of Sodium Polyacrylate under their suits, which is made to absorb the urine. Sodium Polyacrylate is also used in diapers and antiperspirant deodorant. When not in their spacesuits, early astronauts did their business in a sort of tube mechanism, or even a special blue plastic bag containing disinfectant.
