A problem has been detected with the Anti-lock Brake System
It could be a fuse , a sensor , or some other problem
As long as the red " BRAKE " light in your dash is not on
you still have " normal " brakes
( my ABS light came on and the very first ABS fuse I checked was not
installed all the way , I touched it with my finger , heard a click noise ,
and the ABS light went out - just lucky I guess )
have vehicle scanned with ABS scanner to determine the problem
No. Your normal brakes will still work even if the ABS Module is bad. You will however have no ABS function.
It is important to know where the fuses and relays are in a vehicle. The ABS relay in a 99 Ford Windstar is located in a fuse box under the hood.
The 2000 Ford Windstar ABS relay switch is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The relay switch will be on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
I just put new brakes on my 98 Ford Windstar van but the ABS light and the trac active light is still on, and at times the brakes stalls goes all the way to the floor, and the van acts like the wheels are locking up.
If you want to just disable the ABS then you can pull out the fuse for the ABS relay. The only thing is the ABS light will show on the dash.
I had the same problem with my ford 2000 windstar. The abs light would stay on and everything did not work from my lights, to my radio, ac, horn, turning signals..etc. I finally found out that it was my alternator and it had very bad coil. Check your alternator and see if that works!

The key here is that each warning light is trying to tell you 2 different things. They are not likely to be related to each other.Research each light separately.NOTE: Fix the *cause* of the trouble codes and the lights will turn themselves off.See "Related Questions" below for more about check engine lights & Windstar ABS systems
What I did was find the correct fuse for for the ABS motor and remove the fuse . the abs light will stay on but this did it for me. or find the motor just in front of the master cylinder and unplug it.
