The Atlantic marks the western end of Europe. Many European countries have Atlantic Coastlines. Industries like fishing would be a major thing for these countries and so they would be fishing in the Atlantic. Trade would be a major thing too, with ships coming from North and South America and also Africa, passing through Atlantic waters and into the major ports of the various countries.
