It sounds like an electrical problem. There are 4 lights on the car, are all of them not working? Each light has a bulb and a fuse in the fuse box. Check all the fuses, if they are okay then check the bulbs. It is very unlikely that ALL the lights (2 Headlights & 2 Fog lights will all be bad at the same time) One last thing, check the power sockets that connect to the lights. if they are disconnected the trafficators will not work either. Check also the light switch on the dash board to the left of the steering wheel. It could be faulty and is the only unit that can cause all the lights to fail/not work.

The headlights and the tail lights may not be working on the 1981 El Camino because of a mechanical breakdown.

You contradict yourself. If your headlights are staying on during the day, then your DRL are working. What is your problem?
my headlights and dash lights stopped working on my 2007 yamati strada RX150
i was driving in the rain last night my headlights and wipers quit working and i stop the car for 15 minutes and they starting working again and they are still working what could have cause this my car is 2002 cavalier
If just one headlight quit working it probably burned out. If both headlights quit working at the same time the fuse probably blew.
both my lowbeam headlights aren't working although high beam and parking lights do. probably aloose connection. any ideas how i can fix it sal
Stop the car in a safe place at night. Put the car into neutral and apply the handbrake. Switch on the headlights. Get out of the car and look to see that the headlights are working.
