Kaaba is important to Muslims for the following reasons:

  • Kaaba is the oldest religious building on earth since start of mankind
  • Kaaba was raised by the Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim), the father of God prophets, and with support and help of the Prophet Ismael, the ancestor of prophet Muhammad (peace upon them all).
  • All Muslims allover the world, regardless their different schools, pray to the direction facing Kaaba. This is per command of God (Allah) in Quran.
  • Turning around Kaaba is kind of praying and God worship.
  • Kaaba is a central part of Hajj, a pilgrimage performed by millions of Muslims year after year.
  • Kaaba is surrounded by the Grand Mosque, called Al-Masjid Al-Haram, the biggest mosque in the world. Its capacity could be more than 4 millions of prayers.

It has become clear, due to the invention of GPS, that the Ka'aba in Mecca is uniquely located on the Earth. You Tube has a video that illustrates how the position of this structure is remarkable, in relation to all points East, West, North and South.

Abraham and his first son Ishmael layed the foundations and built the walls (up to te height of about six feet) of the Ka'aba. The Qur'an says that it was the first structure built for the worship of the One God. Abraham was commanded by God to build it - right there. Abraham, then, was the one who initiated the Pilgrimmage - and passed it on to his son, who passed it on to his people afterwards.
