The Marine Corps have the toughest boot camp in the entire world...they are the nations finest warriors - this branch is the most physically demanding out of all other branches because you have to run 3 miles in 28 minutes - plus they are the only branch that requires you do dead hang pull ups (unless you're a chick in which you do something similar) but also you must do about 55 sit ups in 2 minutes and 5 dead hang pull ups...the whole mentality of the Marine Corps is toughness, the Crucible which is the 'final exam' if you will, of boot camp is tougher than anything any other boot camp has to endure (you should look up the USMC crucible it's really interesting)...Marines need to be hardcore because they are the tip of the spear, so to speak, the first one to go on, kickin down the door if you will...unless of course you count like navy seals but you have to go to boot camp before you can become a seal, and marine corps boot camp is the best one to prepare you for seals or anything like that.

Neither is "better," in general anyway. Saying one or the other is better is like saying boats are better than cars. Better at what? The USMC is an invading force, "go secure this location" Marines go, it gets secured and then the Army comes in and provides permanent security, in general anyway.

As far as one being considered "better" than the other it usually has to do with the USMC's record of success in many historic battles that had impossible odds against the Marines, and every Marine being a rifleman. Their infantries (Army/Marine Corps) are more or less similar in capability, but the non-combat mos's are where the difference is. Army non combat soldiers (cooks, mechanics, admin, etc) are minimally trained in combat, at least compared to their Marine Corps counterparts. Any Army infantryman that says he'd rather have an Army mechanic at his side than a USMC mechanic after getting ambushed on a convoy is straight up being dishonest for the sake of pride. Every "non-combat" Marine not only has longer and more in-depth initial combat training(bootcamp/MCT, around 4 months before ever going to MOS school) than Army counterparts but that training continues throughout their USMC careers.

Lastly its also about the kind of person that joins the USMC. The Army has its badasses, its elite, and its salty battlehardened grunts just like the Marine Corps. Again the difference is in the non-grunts, a great deal of soldiers are drawn to the Army with bonuses, paying off existing student loans etc. The USMC recruits with its reputation, or at the very least its perception of being "the best" whether or not they are the best is irrelevant. Just compare USMC and Army recruiting commercials for confirmation. The USMC doesn't give bonuses, pay off student loans etc, there are no gifts for signing the dotted line. Recruiting people that want to be the best and want the hardest training (again whether or not they are the best or the training is the hardest is irrelevant, its about what is perceived) results in a group of individuals with a different kind of character than those that joined the military for cookies. It doesn't mean everyone that joined a different service doesn't have that character, or joined a different service for the tangible sign-up rewards, but there are many that did, and none for the USMC. Its not possible to answer "why one is better than the other" or even IF one is better, as with most things it's perception and I could only help to show you why the Marines are perceived as better and leave you to your own devices.

The Marines are the elite fighting force in the world. Not only are the Marines Great warriors but they are the most diciplined organization and group of people I have ever met. Marines dont know the meaning of cant, wont, broken or failure. A United States Marines does not stop when tired or cold or hot or hungry. Marines push thru like dogs accomplishing the goals ahead. I have had the chance to meet some marines and see them work and the precision and perfection they hold in everything they do is just amazing.

Or Perhaps:

Because unlike the other US Services, they were founded in a Tavern and have therefore always enjoyed a better relationship with the American Press.

Who has better training the marines or the army?

Marine boot camp - 12 weeks Army boot - 8 weeks Marines are generally known to be more strict and disciplined while the army has greater numbers.......of course it depends on if you ask an army cat or marine. I was both, and the Marines train all the time and are EXTREMELY strict on physical fitness tests, so I would say the USMC does.

Why are Mexican marines involved in so many drug raids instead of the Mexican army?

Because they have better training and firepower against the drug cartels.

Who pays better the army or marine corps?

all branches follow the same pay scale, so an E1 or Private in the army makes the same as an E1 in the Marines. supposedly the army will promote people faster than the Marines but it comes down to how hard you're willing to work at your job.

What is the difference between the US Army and US Marines?

Yes the US army is better. Any marine well tell you other wise but that is because they are brainwashed. The 82nd airborne in the US army are the first to fight. They are paratroopers. The army's snipers are better then the marine snipers. This is proved by the fact that the army beats them every Year in top sniper. Some people well say well that's not combat that is just targets but this is not the only proof that they are better. For more info on that just simple research snipers. The us army offers more then 150 jobs therefore it is also better. The marines are nothing but the navy's infantry don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. My dad is a 13 year captain in the u.s army and i will be enlisting in a year. This also gives me the opportunity to know more. Lastly i have a Friend who is trying to switch from the marines to the army because he does not thin they are good at all. I don't care what anyone said about marines being first to fight all the marines do is brand there name into your head. Here is an example think about this. Your average person said can i have a Kleenex's. But i believe Kleenex is a brand not a tissue this is called branding. When your average person goes to a restaurant they ask for coke but maybe its Pepsi this is branding. Its called the marines brainwashing our country. I watch the news and see US army soldiers walking through Iraq but they call them marines this is branding!!!!!!!!! So believe what you want but you are wrong if you think the marines are better in any aspect. GO ARMY HOOOOAAHHH!!!!!!The Marines are better than the Army, because the Corps have armed helicopters, (the Cobra), and armed fixed wing aircraft (the Hornet and the Harrier). The Army only has armed helicopters (the Apache). If the Apache isn't good enough to provide air support for the Army, they the Army has to beg the Air Force to pretty please send in the A-10 Warthog, which the Air Force plans to send to scrap heap in Tucson, Arizona and replace with the F-35 Lighting II as soon as possible.

What is the difference between the army and marines?

The Marines sail on ships, has fighter jets, and has ground troops. The Army has ground troops and only has helicopters for support. The Army is just more oriented around ground combat. Correct: But I'll add on. Marines are the first to fight. The Marines first were embellished to fight in the American Revolutionary War; 1770's. The Marine Corps Logo(The Bald Eagle on Planet Earth) and Motto, Semper Fidelis( Always Faithful) was adopted around the 1883. The Marines first Cadence, Hymn, was heard around 1886. The Marines have kept that Logo and Motto ever since, it's a sacred honor for those who fallen( KIA=Killed in Action) to give America our freedoms.

Who is a more feared fighting force the us army or us marines?

US. marines because of there expertise is in killing terrorists and anyone/anything that threatens there country. Also to the army is a larger branch so it just depends on the person that you are if you fear the big guys that can pick you up and through you like a football then you fear the Marines army is usually anyone that doesn't like being screamed at by the DI'S. but this is just my opinion.

What makes marines have so much pride?

Who goes to war more marines or army rangers?

well it depends on if you want to be worked harder..if you join the Marines they have a very tough boot camp that will stretch you to your limits..the Army does still have a hard boot camp but they are not a rigorous as the Marines

Is regiment bigger than a battalion?

I know in the marines a regiment is around 3,000 marines and a battalion is around 800, since the army has 4 times the population of the marines, I'm betting the numbers are much bigger, but the scale is probably the same, somewhere like a regiment is 8,000 soldiers and a battalion is around 1,500 soldiers. So, yes, a regiment is larger than a battalion.
