It is a holy city to both cultures and religions.
The Palestinians are dispossessed and the Israelis only gained their own lands after suffering thousands of years of persecution culminating in 6 million deaths in Nazi Germany.
Both have a claim - and both have been hard done by.

Jerusalem is known for its sacred sites in the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faith. Both the Palestinians and Israelis want Jerusalem as their capital. There has been a great deal of quarreling over Jerusalem in that area.
