The Magen David (literally "Shield of David") has six-points, which symbolize that God rules over the universe and protects us from all six directions: North, South, East, West, Up and Down. A similar symbolism is found in reading the "Shema." ("Code of Jewish Law" O.C. 61:6)
Historically, King David used this six-pointed symbol to signify that the Almighty shields him in war.
Of course, as a "flag" of the Jewish people for thousands of years, it has many other types of significance now.
Annemarie wore Ellen's Star of David necklace to disguise her friend's identity and protect her from being caught by Nazi soldiers. By wearing the necklace, Annemarie pretended to be Ellen and helped her escape danger during the occupation of Denmark in World War II.
In the last 3-4 centuries its use has become very widespread, but it actually isn't an important symbol. It isn't mentioned in the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) or the Talmud (Jewish Oral Law). Among Jews, the value of the Star of David mainly comes from its nature as a symbol of Jewish unity and solidarity. As all Jews were united under David's Kingship, so too are they united under the Star of David.
technocally, it's not. the menorah is (7 branches not 9). but the "star of David" is easier to draw and it is more so a sign of the state of Israel specifically. by the way, the star of david isn't really a star, in Hebrew it is called a Magain David, a shield of David (to protect the head shoulders thighs and groin), so it represents David shielding the state of Israel.
The Jewish Star represents the Unity of the Jewish People which is as important today for Jews as it was 2000 years ago, so the symbol is still used.
He has Star of David tattoos and draws a Star of David in the dirt before he bats but also a cross so idk
jewish people had to wear a star of david on all of there cloths so people would know they were jews so it would be "ok" to disrespect them
Don't Think so.
so that they could be easily identified.
The 'Mogen David' which means 'David's Shield' is a civic symbol representing the Jewish Nation. That is why it is present on the Israeli flag.
During the Holocaust, Jews were made to wear a yellow star of David, or a white armband with a blue Star of David on it.
so you wont get mixed up
The Star of David, more correctly called The Shield of David, is a modern non-religious national symbol for Jews, so no, it was not a common symbol 2000 years ago.
