The structure of the American governmental system places a system of checks and balances into the political culture of our society. Unlike in many other countries, the judicial branch has a very large part in the ongoing political issues of our growing democracy. More often than not, for example, a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court does not only hold a judicial meaning to it, but also guides the current generation's plight to bring change to a nation where change is seemingly endless. Important rulings such as Brown v. Board of Education, Marbury vs. Madison, etc, have not only shaped the current rulings on different laws, but also established a way of life that the American people dwell in everyday. Many times, controversial issues such as abortion and gay marriage can only be resolved by the ruling of a judge who believes in setting a political tone in his/her region or across the country. In a government based on rule of law, the U.S. political system is a direct reflection of the law writing, abiding, and ruling culture of the U.S. court system.
