Too rich of an air/fuel mixture of one of more cylinders missing and not completely burning the fuel.
i just bought one for a 1993 Pontiac grand Prix for 160.00 installed. This was for a universal converter. A new direct fit is 450+ dollars. Some cost over $1000
try muffler shop or auto parts store, can be bought used on eBay
The seller has a responsibility that the vehicle will compy with federal law at the time it is being sold. Take it back to them and tell them to add a catalytic converter or take it back for a refund of your purchase price.
If it doesn't match the one you are replacing, take it back to the store where you bought it. Keep in mind that an aftermarket cat may not look the same but will replace the original.
i bought stall converter for my truck and am wondering how it works
I had this happen years ago with a Suzuki Samuari ... smog hoses would blow off engine, oil would blow out every conceivable connection. Turned out it was a clogged catalytic converter, causing excessive back pressure, blowing past piston rings, and pressurizing the crankcase. Since your car is turbo charged, it >might< be a frozen turbo that's creating backpressure, or a defective catalytic converter. Unfortunatly with my Samurai I took it to a shop for diagnosis, and they said the engine was shot. I bought a rebuilt engine and installed it, only to find out that the same condition occurred, and finally traced it to the catalytic converter. A quick test is to take a mallet and bang on the catalytic converter. You should NOT hear anything rattling around inside! If you do, it could be the 'core' inside the catalytic converter has broken loose, and is pushing up against the out-pipe and causing the backpressure. Hope this helps...but I'd be worried about the turbocharger...
You should get one from the start when you bought your car. A: With all due respect to the answer above, cars were produced for 73 years before the introduction of a Catalytic Converter (1975) 35 years ago. Any car made before 1975 is not required, nor designed, to have one (CAT's produce a LOT of heat that older cars are not designed to deal with). Cars made between 1975 and 1995 are only required to have one, if its emissions cannot be controlled under other conditions (OBD I systems). With the introduction of OBC II systems in 1996 the system required the use of the Catalytic converter to function without errors.
i just replaced the catalytic converter in my 98 cl. I bought a brand new universal converter for $200 and about $50 on a couple sensors that got messed up, you can buy converters at junk yards for cheaper but i couldn't find any. if you need labour done as well your looking at about 350-400 bucks, i installed myself though
AnswerYes, even used. See the EPA link below and show it to the VW dealer. Voluntary warranty extension from 8 years/80,000 (req. by EPA) to 10 years/120K miles. But, if the catalytic converter has ANY visible damage the factory will refuse to honor the warranty. Since it can't be determined if the converter or the damage is the root problem. So before you spend the money to get the technician to determine if it is covered check the converter yourself.
That depends on size and how the structure is made, they can range from $20-$200.tHIS 2002 MERCURY COUGAR..I BOUGHT A SET OF THREE..ONLY NEEDED 2 SO I HAVE 2 USED AND 1 NEW HOW MUCH YOU THINK
Yes!!!, The catalytic converter (CC) should not have anything wrong with it if the engine was tuned correctly. If the engine was running rich, because the computer was compensating for a sensor that is giving incorrect readings then the CC would clog with the carbon produced by running too rich. This is the most common cause of CC failure.
There are many places where an iPod movie converter can be bought. Some of those places include Amazon, Ebay, Videora, and Apple's official online website.
