Digital or analog, the fuel gauge gets it signal from the fuel sending unit, which is typically located on top of the fuel tank. What you're looking at is most likely either a bad fuel sending unit, or a disrupted signal, which could be due to broken wiring or a short in the wiring. You'll need to drop the fuel tank, disconnect the fuel sending unit (it's usually just a weatherpack terminal), then check (with the key in the on position and the relay to the fuel pump pulled) to see if there's power to the fuel sending unit. If there is, then the fuel sending unit most likely needs to be replaced. If there isn't, then you need to trace the circuit and find the fault.
Your relay sensor is likely faulty
I am assuming that you have the analog style gauge cluster. What you would do is you would take the gauge cluster out of the dashboard area. Then, you would install a new gauge. If you cannot do this, I would check the internet and find a new Chrysler New Yorker gauge cluster. I believe that you could use either a digital cluster or an analog cluster, but I would use the same type that your car curently has. Good Luck! I hope that this helps.
It's most likely the sending unit. have your mech check that for you.
you need to replace the sending unit in the tank!
Mine just came on too, and i noticed my gas gauge moving up and down when i hit bumps, (more than usual) I believe my problem is the float in the gas tank. could be yours too.
Vehicles do not come with a digital car gauge. You have the option to install a gauge in your car at the time purchase.
When they are not displayed - check to see if the headlights are on - they are designed to dim and perhaps the dimmer control just needs to be adjusted
Analog gauges do not use digital numbers or digital displays. Analog gauges use dials or a pointer. Think hands moving around a dial as in an analog speedometer. If it has digital numbers then it is not an analog gauge it is a digital gauge.
The gas gauge in a digital setting is run from a fuse as well as the float inside the gas tank. Check the fuse for the gas gauge to see if that fixes the problem.
A digital pressure gauge may be purchased from an auto parts store. Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, Pep Boys and NAPA are all stores that carry digital pressure gauges.
It will not work if the battery dies.
The most common reason for a 1996 Chrysler Cirrus odometer and RPM gauge to stop working is a fuse. If the fuse is removed from the dash and replaced, often times the odometer and RPM gauge will begin working.
