Check your gas cap. This usually happens when there is a leak in the system allowing gas vapors to escape, or at the very least the car is convinced there is a leak. Often, even if the cap is on tight, there still might be a leak and replacing the cap can fix it. If you Google the problem, there are several threads related to this question, and the responses are consistent.

Also, the fuel light blinks when you're about to run out of gas. To fix this problem, simply add more gas. :)
