Why is the neutral light blinking on your 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport?

I have a 2000 Mits. Monty Sport LS and I had the same problem happen to me a few years back. Off the top of my head I believe the light blinking around the neutral signal was an indicator that the transmission was overheating. I tried pulling a boat behind my montero and after about half way to the lake or an hour and a half of driving, I decided to have a friend with a V8 take it the rest of the way because when I got out at half way, there was trans fluid all over the boat. Now I did have Goodyear change the fluid before the trip and they may have filled the transmission to high and all that fluid that came out was just from the vent but I think I pushed it too hard. On my return trip home from the lake is when my neutral light began to bllink so I beleive all the fluid I lost caused the transmission to over heat thus the light blinking. Hope this helps!
