Why is the oil light in a 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse coming on at an idle and then goes off?

If it comes on at an idle and goes out when you give it gas, you may have a weak oil pump. That's not good. Put a mechanical gauge on it and it will tell you the pressure in lbs. At an idle, you want 30 lbs at least, I would think. Also, check the oil level. Has the oil been changed recently? Take the oil cap off and look in the valve cover and see if it sludges up. That will stop up your pickup tube. Hope that helps.
