You have hard water, that will distort the color of your pool real easy. Have someone come and fill your pool with anything other than the water that you have already used.

I am experiancing the same problem with brown water. Come to find out that the clorine oxidizes the Iron in Well water turning it brown. There are chemicals that you can get at the pool supply store that will help.

Best of luck...

It's called algae dust. Chemically broken down algae that can't be sucked up by the pool pump or the pool vacuum. It's hell to deal with.

AnswerI have managed to get a lot of this out of my pool. I have a very small pool 10x30 and have been trying to remove this for weeks. The solution that in the end worked? Nylon Stockings.

We have an aqua-tech water broom which has a filter bag inside the unit and is battery operated. All the unit does is kick the silt/sediment into the water and mix it again. I have purchased a larger more powerful filter and this also diid not work. In the end I cut a leg off some old stockings and wrapped them around the filter bag. The finer mesh stopped the smaller particles from coming through the bag. Of course you will need to clean it more and the cleaning will take longer as well.

If you have a larger pool this may not work - depending on the type of vacuum you have. If your vacuum has a bag attachment try going to a fabric shop and getting some mesh, fine mesh or nylon material to line the inside of the bag with. This will get the smaller particles out.

I have also secured another piece of stocking to the intake tube for the cartridge filter via the clamp screws that hold the pipe in place. It is at the opening on the pool side (NOT the filter end). After the vacuuming session kicked a lot of the silt into the water it mixes and will just pass through the filter uncollected. This way it is removed as it goes into the pump. I would not leave this for more than an hour without checking on it as it may cause a problem with the pump - if there is not enough water getting to it. About every 30-60 minutes check the "bag" and clean if necessary. Once the water is clear remove the "bag" from the filter pipe.

The brown spots may look as if someone threw dirt balls into your pool. You may vacuum them up and a day or two later you have more. This is the start of algae and you are about two weeks away from having an all green pool. Your water is warmer and algae is growing fast. Treat your pool now or pay for it later.

Can you swim in pool with brown water?

Yes, only use clear clean water in your pool {;-). Seriously, why is it brown. If it is from rust, then you can purchase a clarifier at your pool store. If it is from leaf decomposition, then Chlorine will eventualy take care of it. If it is from pee, it is your call.

Why does my Intex salt water pool system keep turning the water brown - goes into the system clear but water exits the system - and into pool - brownish?

Are you using iodized salt or pool salt? I've read that the iodine in the iodized salt will leave yellow staining in the pool.

Does a beige pool bottom make the water look blue?

A beige pool bottom will not make the water look blue. This is because the beige will reflect off the water making it look brown.

How do you get brown stains off a pool wall?

Use a natural ascorbic acid based pool product to clean stains on walls in the pool. Once applied, this product almost immediately removes most stains. Most pool stains come from metals in the water. Test your fill water to make sure it doesn't contain high concentrations of metals, if you fill your pool from sources other than city water.

How do you determine if brown staining on a plaster epoxy painted pool wall is a mineral problem or some kind of an algae problem?

Brown staining on pool walls and fixtures is usually from a high iron content in the water. The chemical reaction with newly added fill water and the addition of chlorine shortly after will cause a fallout of this metal. I have witnessed this years ago after adding a gallon o f chlor. to a newly filled pool and just watched the brown cloud form and fill the pool to a chocolate brown color. There are chelating agents to prevent this from happening. k

Why are my steps brown an my liner is vinyl?

I'm assuming you mean (white) fiberglass-type stairs in your (in-ground) pool. Brown staining and/or discoloration is most typically caused by metals (iron, copper or magnesium) that has precipitated out from corroding metal pool parts (i.e. gas pool heater waterpath) into the pool water, and settled into surfaces that can absorb this tiny particulate matter such as Rovel, fiberglass or thermoplastic pool stairs. The root cause of this is imbalanced pool water, specifically "corrosive" water, meaning pool water that is extremely low in pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness, and is in a state that is corroding such metal surfaces and "distributing" these suspended particles throughout the pool. No amount of detergents or elbow grease will remedy this. The solution is to FIRST (pay attention to and) balance your pool water. Take a pint sample to a COMPETENT pool dealer who specializes in water testing, and add the alkalinity, pH and calcium increasers - in that order - necessary to bring the water to a "balanced" (non-corrosive) state. Then use a liquid "metal removing agent" such as the Pool Breeze brand, and pour it directly on the stairs. If you do it in front of friends, they'll think you're Kreskin, because the stairs will go from brown/black to bright white instantaneously...literally like magic.
