The Sixth Amendment of the United States Constitution deals with the rights of a person who is charged with a crime. An individual is to be afforded a speedy public trial by an impartial jury which is convened in the locale that has jurisdiction, and whose proceedings shall include a reading (specification) of the charges and the legal basis (cause) for them as well as the right to face any witness(es) against him, the right to compel (by subpoena) the testimony of any witness(es) in his favor, and the right to defense counsel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution#Text The reason the Sixth Amendment was written into the Constitution was to protect the individual rights (liberties) of anyone accused of a crime by assuring due process to those who might be accused or charged. Many governments or regimes in power around the world at the time that this was written could (and did) imprison individuals indeterminately without any formal (or even informal) charges being pressed against them. The thoughtful men who drafted the Constitution and, in particular, the Sixth Amendment were well aware of that brand of injustice, and did not want something so patently unfair to be possible in the United States. I would say it is equally as important to the others. But it is important in its own nature because it states that everyone should have a speedy trial, right to jury, and also that the defendant be informed of the charges, to have witnesses that are on the defendants side. The 6th amendment is important because it sets one's right out that they have in court.
The 6th amendment is included in the Bill of Rights because the founding father's wanted to make sure people received fast and fair trials.
the first amendment and the sixth amendment.
The relative importance of Constitutional amendments is a matter of personal preference and also of some debate. The four-part First Amendment is high on most peoples' lists, but is the Second Amendment or the Sixth Amendment more crucial? The Third Amendment is rarely considered, and the extremely important 9th and 10th Amendments are widely ignored in legal jurisprudence. Is this good or bad?
The Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments
The Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Amendments protect the rights of the accused directly. The Fifth guarantees the right to a grand jury, prohibits double jeopardy (two prosecutions for the same offense), protects against self-incrimination (you don't have to testify against yourself), and guarantees due process of law. The Sixth guarantees a speedy and public trial, trial by an impartial jury, confrontation of witnesses, and right to counsel (and a few other things not frequently cited). The Eighth prohibits cruel and unusual punishments, and also excessive bail. Additionally, two other Amendments apply to accused persons indirectly: The Fourteenth Amendment applies the Bill of Rights to the States (for the most part). The Fourth Amendment controls how the police may gather evidence.
The entire Bill of Rights (First 10 Amendments) was drafted by James Madison but was taken in large part from the ideas of George Mason.
Rights of the sixth amendment
The sixth amendment to the Constitution of the United States was ratified, as part of the Bill of Rights (the first ten amendments), on December 15, 1791.
The Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments of the US Constitution deal specifically with rights of a defendant accused of a crime. The Fourteenth Amendment indirectly deals with such rights because it makes some but not all of the rights in the above amendments applicable to the states.
Sixth Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland happened in 1979.
