Its just short for Theodore (Ted, Teddy).

it came from when he was out hunting and he saw a bear with its baby cub and he refused to shoot the bear because of its cub, which is where teddy came from and the reason why toy bears are called teddy bears. because of Theodore's act of not killing the mother bear.

The "Teddy" bear was named after Theodore Roosevelt because on a hunting trip where game was scarce his comrades tied a bear cub to a tree and wanted Roosevelt to kill it, instead he let the cub go. A publisher published this story along with a cartoon and that inspired a toy store owner to make little stuffed bears, and with Roosevelt's permission came the name "teddy bear"

Actually the bear was not a cub, it was an underweight sickly adult female that one of the guides had clubbed over the head with his rifle butt before tying it to the tree so it also had a badly bleeding head wound when Roosevelt saw it. When offered the chance to shoot it Roosevelt said "no thank you" as he thought it both unsportsmanlike and an unsuitable trophy of the hunt. Then in compassion he told the guide to "take it out of its misery" and the guide took his knife and cut the bear's belly open. They atethe bear that evening for dinner.

It was the newspapers that showed the bear in their political Cartoons as a cub and conveniently omitted the end of the story.

The teddy bear was named after Theodore Roosevelt because Theodore refused to shoot a bear cub while he was on a hunting trip.

First he refused to shoot a bear while hunting and then there are multiple theories. One theory is that a man named Morris mitchom asked Theodore if he could name his bears teddy's bears and the other theory is that at the 1903 liepzig convention a man named Richard stieff with the help of an American importer, borgfeldt, imported bears to America.

Teddy bears are named after the American President Teddy Roosevelt. He spared a bear on a hunting trip and this was publicised. A toy maker made a bear in honour of that and before you know it - they were a craze, and named after Teddy..

Because he killed a bear and he got the name by doing that , by killing that bear

Sorry but this answer is incorrect.

Whilst on a shooting trip in Mississippi in November 1902 most of his fellow shooting party had successfully killed an animal. Then a group of Roosevelt's men cornered, clubbed and shackled an American Black Bear. Roosevelt refused to shoot it himself saying it was unsportsman like but ordered that it should be put out of its misery. The story soon spread and a cartoon illustration appeared in the Washington Post. Morris Michtom saw the cartoon and made a toy bear cub which he called Teddy's bear after asking permission from Roosevelt.
