Jehovah's Witness OpinionThe Bible never speaks of Trinity. The Trinity doctrine was made up. It has no Biblical basis since the Father is greater than the Son

John 14:28: YOU heard that I said to YOU, I am going away and I am coming [back] to YOU. If YOU loved me, YOU would rejoice that I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

And Holy Spirit is not a person but God's active force.

Acts 2:16-18: On the contrary, this is what was said through the prophet Joel, '"And in the last days," God says, "I shall pour out some of my spirit upon every sort of flesh, and YOUR sons and YOUR daughters will prophesy and YOUR young men will see visions and YOUR old men will dream dreams; and even upon my men slaves and upon my women slaves I will pour out some of my spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

A person can't be poured out. The Bible clearly shows that Holy Spirit is not a person but God's active force.

And since there is only one who is the Most High the trinity doctrine has no Scriptural basis.

AnswerActually the above shows a rather skewed and naive understanding of scripture. The concept of the Trinity pervades the whole of scripture, from Genesis 1 where God (Father) created through his Word (Jesus) and by His Spirit as his Spirit moved over the waters:

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. "[Gen 1: 1-3]

The concept continues throughout the Old Testament and into the Gospels. We read of Jesus claiming to be God (he forgave sins, spoke in his own authority not God's, performed miracles in his own name, not God's, accepted worship, and was charged with blasphemy because he claimed to be God). We read of Jesus sending the Holy Spirit onto his disciples (not God) as comforter an guide. We read at the end of Matthew's Gospel Jesus commanding the disciples to baptise all nations in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit [Matt 28:19] In John's gospel there are further references of Jesus' divinity (John 1 as an example) as well as in Paul's letters. In Revelation we read of Jesus as judge - as part of the Godhead.

Of course the word 'Trinity' doesn't appear in the Bible but neither does 'television' or 'cell phone' but that doesn't mean that the Trinity doesn't exist. It is simply a term used to try to explain how God is revealed to humanity in his love.

As for the USE of the Trinity, the greatest use is in the theology of God's redemption. Groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses who do not accept Christ's divinity simply cannot explain the death of Jesus on the Cross with any theological integrity. This is because if Jesus isn't divine and part of the Godhead then God sacrificed someone else on the Cross. This is the action of a vengeful God who is to be appeased (like the false gods, say, of the Aztecs) by human sacrifice - and is not a act of supreme, unconditional love. However, if Jesus IS divine, and part of a Trinitarian Godhead then God sacrifices himself on the Cross - in Jesus - as a supreme act of love. It is only in this latter case that the rest of scripture is realised, the nature of God is revealed and the bodily resurrection of Jesus makes sense. Furthermore it is only by the resurrection of Jesus and his ascension that the release of the Holy Spirit makes sense, and the prophesy of Joel can come true. And, incidentally, in both the Old and New Testaments the Holy Spirit is regarded as a separate person from the Father and the Son as well as being, with the Son and Father, one God. Moreover the Hebrew for the Spirit (ruac'h) and the Greek equivalent (pneuma) are both feminine nouns and therefore cannot be identified as simply God's active force as both YHWH and the Father are masculine.

So, in summary, the Trinity is a Biblical concept despite the word not occurring in scripture. And it is only by understanding the Trinitarian idea of God does the redemption of Jesus on the Cross, the bodily resurrection, the ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit actually make any sense.

If you are asking is the term 'trinity' in the Bible, the answer is NO. It is a concept of men in their vain attempt at describing the Godhead personages. It became a working concept starting in the early 4th Century A.D. and was never discussed by Jesus or His Apostles.

ANSWER: The trinity is used to show the three aspects of the Christian God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
