Zeolite is lighter than sand and smaller than sand. It can get past the laterals and backwash out easier. When backwashing some of it will be in the valve. Rinsing will remove some of it but some will go to the pool.

The vac system has to hook up the the skimmer not the Hayward filter. k
Depending on what type of filter you have. For example, a Hayward S180 uses 150lbs of sand, S244 uses 300lbs. This information is provided on the sticker that is located on the tank of the filter.
My Hayward sand filter doesn't have a liner. I just add the sand to the pressure vessel.

Sand Andre Pro 50 is a better filter game than the Hayward VL40T32 VL.

If, and only if, the horsepowers are the same and the fittings are the same size, yes. Don't change the horsepower of your pump without changing your filter without consulting a professional.
Google Hayward.com and search the links there. k

Gayle- There are basicly 3 types of filters. Sand, Cartridge, and D.E. filter. Differences being numerous, but in a nut shell is the ease of maintence and care and the size micron of particle they will filter out of the water. With that said sand is the easist to maintain regularly but, cart., and DE filters filter out smaller particles. DE filter out the smallest particle but, with the most difficult to maintain and repair etc. Hope this all helps, Mystic Waters Inc. GA There's a relatively new filter medium available called zeolite, which is a volcanic sand rather than the usual silica sand. Because each grain of zeolite has one hundred times the surface area of a grain of sand, zeolite used in a sand filter filters almost as effectively as a D.E. filter while being much easier to maintain. I'd absolutely recommend that you look into zeolite before buying a D.E. filter.
No, it'll blow right back to the pool which will then make it hard to remove. Sand filters REQUIRE a #20 grid pool filter sand. There is also another product possible called zeolite for sand filters... it will filter finer than sand.
