The Latin "Fidei Defensor" (meaning - Defender of the Faith) sometimes abbreviated to FID DEF or just F D, is a title given to Henry VIII by Pope Leo X for his stance against Martin Luthers Protestant reforms. The title has been used by all subsequent British Monarchs.

Based on your short question I can't provide a definite answer. Two guesses:

If it's an American coin, you're seeing FG and it's only on some coins - the ones designed by Frank Gasparro.

If it's Australian, British or Canadian, the "FD" is part of a longer Latin motto and is an abbreviation that stands for Defender of the Faith, one of the titles the monarch holds as head of the Church of England.

If neither one of these answers your question please post a new one with more detail.

On British Coins "F D", sometimes shown as "FID DEF" (Latin - Fidei Defensor) translates as "Defender of the Faith", a title conferred on Henry VIII in 1521 by Pope Leo X for his treatise against the Protestant Martin Luther. It seems to have first appeared on British gold and silver coins during the reign of George I in or about 1714.
