How can YOU tell whether cells in mitosis are animal or plant cells?

During telophase of mitosis, a cell plate is formed as the plant cell begins its division. In animal cells, the cell pinches in the center to form two cells; no cell plate is laid down.

Does a plant cell have a furrow in the middle of the cell membrane?

I have never heard of a furrow but furrowing is the process during cell replication when an animal cell splits into 2 new cells by "pinching" the 2 halves of the cell apart down the center of the cytoplasm.

Is nucleolus a cell inside a cell?

No. A nucleolus is an organelle consisting of a ball of protein and nucleic acids found inside a nucleus in a cell. It is not a cell.

When and why does the nuclear envelope break down during cell replication?

during prophase, in order to allow microtubules to attach to the duplicated chromosomes

Time when plants and animals conduct cell respiration?

Plant conduct cell respiration during photosynthesis during which time they release O2 into the atmosphere and absorb CO2. Animals conduct cell respiration during respiration they breath out CO2 and absorb the O2 needed to break down sugars.

In what phase does the movement of individual chromosomes towards opposite poles occur?

In the context of cell division, chromosomes will aline in the middle of the cell during metaphase, then during anaphase they are pulled apart into two daughter cells by centrioles. I wouldn't say they are ever on opposite poles, also considering that there is no directionality of a cell.

During which stage of mitosis does the nucleus break down?

telophase (4th)

What happens to chromosomes during the stage of the cell cycle in which the nucleus divides include the terms prophase metaphases anaphase and telophase?

Prophase: Chromosomes condense into visual forms and nuclear envelope breaks down. Metaphase: Chromosomes pair and line up along metaphase plate(midline) and also attatch to mitotic spindles at centromere. Anaphase: Mitotic spindles attached to chromosomes pull half of the chromosomes to each side of cell. Telophase: Nuclear envelope begins to reform. animal cells: Cleavage in cell occurs which divides cell into two. plant cells: Cell wall forms in the middle of cell to separate the cell.

Name 2 things that occur during telophase 1?

The nuclear membrane and nucleolus (these had disappeared during prophase). They had originally disappeared during prophase because the chromatin condensed into chromatids and then coiled into chromosomes and needed to seperate. They reappear during telophase because the chromatid uncoils again to form chromatin. This means that the cell no longer needs to seperate so it can reform the membrane and nucleolus.

What forms right down the middle of a dividing plant cell?

During cell division in plants, a cell wall forms. This is caused by cell plate formation. See links before:

What does a nucleus do in a mitosis of a single cell?

During the first stage of mitosis, prophase, the nucleus and nucleolus disappear. Mitosis then proceeds into metaphase and anaphase. Then during telophase, the nuclei reappear in the two cells and finally the cells split apart from each other by a process known as cytokinesis.

How is cytokinesis in plant cell different from cytokinesis in animal cells?

In human and animal cells, cytokinesis involves the cytoplasm and cell membrane pinching itself in two, called the cleavage furrow, forming 2 "daughter" cells. In plants, cytokinesis involves the formation of a cell plate. Basically the cell elongates a little, and then grows a new cell wall right down the middle, effectively dividing the cell.

Do centrioles organize the mitotic spindle in cell division?

No they do not, centrioles are the only organelles in a cell which are not synthesised during the G1 phase. During the telophase of cell division the two pairs of centrioles in each of their own centrosomes break down. Whilst a new nuclear memebrane is forming around the chromosomes a new par of centrioles is synthesised. Therefore centrioles are made during the telophase of the mitotic phase. Centrioles then divide into two pairs during the Synthesis phase. Each pair of centrioles then move to opposite poles of the nucleus during prophase.

During this stage of mitosis the chromosomes are aligned along the middle of the cell?

The chromosomes are aligned along the middle of the cell during metaphase of mitosis. For more information on mitosis, see the link, further down this page, listed under Related Links.
