While the kidney is normally thought of as an excretory organ, it is also an important endocrine organ (ie, one that produces hormones). One of the hormones it produces is called erythropoietin (EPO), which stimulates the production of red blood cells (RBCs). RBCs are basically sacs of hemoglobin that carry oxygen around. The amount of hemoglobin varies according to the number of RBCs in the blood. And the number of RBCs in the blood is controlled by EPO. In kidney disease, EPO production decreases because the kidney is malfunctioning. As a result, RBC count decreases, as does hemoglobin.
There are more toxins in the bloodstream as the toxins are not getting properly filtered. Hence there are less haemoglobin.
It is actually a result of a lack of EPO Hormone produced by healthy kidneys. The EPO (erythropoietin) is a hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow.

This information can be used to help physician's diagnose and monitor anemia (a low hemoglobin level) and polycythemia vera (a high hemoglobin level).

A hemoglobin level of 4.7 is dangerously low and if not properly treated could become fatal. Normally, women should have a hemoglobin level of 12 or more, men 13 or more. Generally, hospitals will begin emergency blood transfusions when the hemoglobin level drops below 7 or 8.

Since erythropoietin is synthesized in the kidney, the effect of kidney failure is to depress red blood cell production. Thus, anemia occurs. The average hemoglobin level for an individual suffering from ESRD (end stage renal disease) is no more than 10.8 in the vast majority of cases.
Males has hormone testosterone.this hormone will stimulate the production of erythropoietin from kidney. When the level of erythropoietin increase, the formation of erythrocyte(red blood cell) increase as well.
For an infant, normal hemoglobin is 14-22 g/dL
There is no correlation between hemoglobin and lung cancer. A high or low hemoglobin can mean any number of conditions; people with lung cancer can have any level of hemoglobin depending on situation and other conditions.
Is hemoglobin level at 152 considered high for a 52 year old male ?
