You're likely looking at the oil pressure sending unit.

Windstream has always been 2 wire connection. They might be making a 4 wire connection but they do not have it out yet.
If you look at the motor it's on the right side it has 2 hoses and one wire connection on it.

Most likely you have a grounding problem in the left tail-light. See if the wire is disconnected, broken or if the grond wire connection is corroded where it connects to the body.
STAR connection is best suit for 3 phase 4 wire seviceas there is a neautral wire is there in this connection
in the v6 it's in the wiring harness above the right valve cover. In the others its in the wire at the starter battery connection and there is one other model that has it at the battery end of the wire that goes to the starter.
The ignition wire for the 2001 Ford Ranger is yellow. This is the 12 volt constant wire. Other wires in the harness are red and blue.
