I need more information about year, make, engine size.
Could be the ignition coil, distributor, distributor cap & rotor or even spark plugs and wires.
Is it a brand new distributor ? If not then replace the module and pick-up coil in the distributor that you have.
Yes, when changing spark plugs it is a good idea to change all eight so the firing will be even.
Try a minor tuneup by changing the spark plugs and checking the distributor contacts. Sounds like the vehicle is burning rich which is what's making it shake and finally stall while stopped. Dirty or worn out plugs or even a bad spark due to corroded or dirty contacts in the distributor will cause this.
You distributor cap and rotor should also be replaced. If still no spark. check the compression on the low cylinders to see if you have good compression.
Spark Plugs need replaced Bad or Old Distributor or even a weak fuel pump, or old fuel filter.
You do not have to replace the spark plugs, although you do have to remove the water pump to replace the distributor cap and rotor assembly on the LT1s Optispark which drives directly off the cam behind the water pump. You may even have to remove the harmonic balancer/crank pulley, not sure but be prepared for this. I know the balancer/crank pulley does have to be removed if the whole Optispark (distributor) is to be replaced.
Did you gap the spark plugs before u inserted them into the block casue that can have a big effect.
my 1993 probe gt done the same thing with the no spark at the plugs the ignition module was bad i replace the whole distributor and it runs great
Spark PlugsI'd cozy up to a man with mechanical ability who would be glad to do it for you. Or you could remove the engine cover that has the 2.4L wording on it and change the spark plugs yourself.
The engine must be tilted forward. Why are you changing spark plugs on a 2003 engine. These plugs do not need replacement until 100,000 miles. For more detailed directions, follow the instructions for changing the plugs in any 3800 engine in the grand prix '97 and up listed in the grand prix forum. Hope this helps. "G" You need to remove alternator, and undo forward engine support to get engine to go forward. It is a tight fit but it can be done. I even did it with just alternator removed. Have fun
Your question is not very clear. I am guessing that you want to know how to route the plug wires between the spark plugs and the distributor cap. On GM V engines, the even numbered spark plugs are on the left side on a rear wheel drive engine or along the front of a front wheel drive engine with number one plug being the one at the front of the engine. On the distributor cap, if the distributor shaft and timing chain have been properly installed, the number one plug wire would be attached to the connector closest to the carberator or throttle body. The firing order on GM V8 engines is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
