OK I just went through this myself with my 94 Montero LS 3.0 and at first I thought it was the transmission leaking because it was picking up some residual tranny oil and it was reddish in colour however when it started to turn green I was perplexed... I traced it, which was difficult to do because of the proximity of the firewall to the back of the motor and I found it was coming from behind the motor and below the intake manifold in a cavity through which a coolant transfer tube runs into the back of the water pump(which is mounted on the front of the motor behind the timing chain). "Hint" I also observed that when the car was slightly slanted toward the front the coolant would run out from below the crankshaft pulley in front of the motor. This transfer tube water pump connection had a failing o-ring and after I took off the water pump I noticed some rust around the bottom of the pump seating surface sooo it could have been leaking there also. Anyway the water ran through the cavity out the back of the motor and ran over the top of the transmission.
Hope this helps
sounds like the water pump is leaking
It is most likely that a frost plug has "popped" or is leaking. I had something similar happen to my Montero Ltd. The supply line to the rear heat vent had a leak and was causing the radiator to drain quickly.
too much oil check level It could depends on what color the smoke is. If it is white smoke, water is leaking into the engine, If the smoke is black oil is leaking in your engine and you may want to check gaskets and seals.
Yes water cause leaking
i dont know for sure but look for it just under the ac lines that go thru the fire wall in the engine compartment
Behind the timing belt. The timing belt drives the water pump with the pump's pulley.
Follow the top radiator hose down to the water outlet. The stat is in the water outlet. Mark
The drainage hose of the a/c condensate is cloged
could be freeze plug, or intake leaking
well on the back of the heads, there is a y pipe that lead to one pipe on the passenger side. "water out let pipe", the two pipes seal by compression fit using an o ring. mine is leaking there right now. it was hard to see and will be harder to get to.
/the water circulating noise could be low coolant in the system. If the coolant is bubbling in the overflow bottle, then check for a blown head gasket causing the noise.
Need more info. Would like to know where this hole is.
