I had this exact same problem.........if it is only overheating while in traffic at an idle and the fans do cycle while the heatac is on then i have good news for you. Between the two fans in the engine compartment, there is a plug that is identical to the ones holding the wire to the fans. Remove this and check to see if it is burnt.. If it is you need a new blower resistor and a new pigtail connector for it.....both are cheap and very easy to replace. peace
I'm not a mechanic but, I had to replace my radiator to fix the overheating problem on my 1994. That was the last thing I replaced after replacing the water pump, thermostat, and replaced my fan with a clutch fan. have not had anymore problems with it overheating once the radiator was replaced. Flush the coolant first then replace the radiator. Hope this helps.
your thermostat is closed. needs to be replaced. inexpensive part but can save your engine from overheating.
Low coolant level? System airbound? Cooling fan not working? Radiator plugged or restricted? Water pump not circulating coolant? Defective radiator cap?
Low coolant? System air bound? Hoses collapsing under pressure? Water pump not circulating coolant?
The most common cause of overheating is a thermostat stuck in the closed position. Other causes of overheating could be a clogged radiator, faulty water pump, a faulty radiator fan relay, a faulty radiator fan motor, no coolant or low coolant level.
well, check your oil, engine coolant, and your radiator.
possiable head gasket
Low coolant or an inoperative radiator fan.Low coolant or an inoperative radiator fan.
have the head gasket replaced
likely possibilities are the following. Low or bad coolant , water pump, thermostat needs changing, clogged radiator or lines, coolant temperature sensor or radiator fans not coming on, head gasket Also check the radiator caps on the hose and the overflow container. That was my problem. One or both may have to be replaced.
can the gasket go bad behind the water pump houseing
Check the coolant level. check the radiator fans.
