What are you talking about? My temperature gauge works fine. Though, if it wasn't I would check the temperature sending unit.

Your best bet would be to go to oreillys or auto zone and get a small gas gauge and unhook the wires from the gauge in your dash and run it to the side and put it by the pillar... The way to test the gauge is to unhook the wires to the sender and the gauge should read empty. Now, ground the sensor wire and the gauge should go all the way past the full level. If this happens your wiring and gauge are fine.

There could be several things wrong with the system that the thermostat gauge is connected to. You could check to see if the gauge is working correctly. If the gauge works fine, then it could be the housing that the thermostat is mounted to. It could also be a faulty bypass valve near the thermostat which prevents the engine from heating up. Check these places to see what may be wrong with your escort.
