most likely reason for any vehicle to perform under its natural ability when cold is simple. cold engine= thick oil + more friction + less horsepower. until an engine has reached its optimum temperature and oil is warm and not thick anymore, there will be alot more friction inside the engine making it harder for the car to run.

I would say at least 2 litres, have just done my 98 Lantra (Lantra in New Zealand, not Elantra) and put 2 litres in, following a good flush out with clean water and hot run. Depends where you live, as in how cold it gets, but I'd say you are safe putting 3 litres in, but no less than 2.

How do you set the cold start idle speed on a Hyundai atoz G4HC Engine?

cold start on this car is set by setting the throttel position switch to 0.0degrees/% the target idle speed is 850rpm when warm and fast idle is 1150rpm. and the car must be connected to a computer to set the ecu to static run so the adjustments can be made. how ever high cold start idle on these cars is normal as i have the same car and have plugged it to my lap top usining Hyundai's diaog software (HI-SCAN PRO) and have set every thing to Hyundai spec with no change.
