My apologies for sounded flip, but what are you smoking? Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, founded the Catholic Church (there is NO "Roman" Catholic Church) on the Apostle Peter, the first Pope. The Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Jesus Christ (read Acts 9:1-5, 1 Corinthians 12:12-14), thus your question reads: Why kill Jesus then support His killer His Body? Which, as you can probably tell makes no sense at all.

The term "Roman" is just an informal term in this context. At the time of Jesus, Rome was the main city in the known world. Eventually Christianity spread to Rome and it eventually became an official religion of the Roman Empire and the headquarters of the church were set up in Rome. In the 17th century the term "Roman Catholic" was first used. It was used to describe the churches that were associated with the Pope in Rome, as opposed to other Christian Churches that did not follow him, which include the various Protestant churches.
