In the United States, the founders sought to create a democratic republic where by the country was governed by rule of law rather than by rule of men. It was deemed impractical to have a direct democracy where all citizens had a vote in all matters. Instead power was given to elected representatives from each state. The founders feared the power of one unitary executive therefore the most power was given to the Legislative Branch as a whole.
Reading the Federalist Papers would shed more light on this concept.
They didn't. They wanted a "balance of power" between the branches. In recent years the Executive Branch has taken over duties that have been meant for the Legislative Branch. The framers were afraid that if any one of three branches got too powerful that there wouldn't be a balance in the government They wanted to prevent another king, so the three branches were created to watch each other/balance each other. In each there is a "check and balance" system. One can't do something without the approval of the other.
The framers felt that the legislative branch might tend to predominate. Thus they wanted a strong executive, for they believed, as Hamilton wrote in The Federalist, that "energy in the executive is a leading character in the definition of good government." They hoped to establish a government in which the three branches would be coordinate in power, but they felt that in fact the judiciary, though not subordinate, did not actually share in the exercise of real power.
They gave most of the power to the legislature because founders believed that because people elect legislature, it's the most democratic branch. Also, because they were afraid to give the executive branch too much power.
They viewed powerful executives as enemies of liberty.
I dont think its fair to say that the legislative branch has more power.
the legislative
Legislative is the most powerful of the three as it is the Law making body..
The State Constitution made the legislature branchthe most powerful.
In legal issues yes. However the congress legislative is the most big event.
No Branch was more powerful each branch could stop the other one
The Legislative Branch.
all three branches are powerful but the executive branch has the most power
Its more powerful because it does all the government work
they are all equal power
the legislative branch has the most legislative duties because it is in the name : )
congress can override
the legislative branch stop one of gornment from becoming too powerful..
