1. Could not isolate the war; as Korea had been due to it's geographic location (being a peninsula). Consequently, the flow of enemy men/material could not be stopped.

2. Could not invade North Vietnam.

3. Could not use nukes.

Had to kill all Communist forces in country (Republic of South Vietnam); it was called a war of attrition. The measuring method used was the "body count." This took years, and it still didn't work.
