What did Odysseus tell Polyphemus that his name was no man how did this help him?

When Odysseus introduced himself as "No Man," he cunningly deceived Polyphemus, the Cyclops. By doing so, Odysseus made it difficult for Polyphemus to identify him later when seeking vengeance. As a result, when Odysseus and his men blinded the Cyclops and escaped, Polyphemus couldn't call out a specific name for help, allowing Odysseus to continue on his journey without immediate retribution.

What happened to Odysseus and the Cyclops?

The cyclops, Polyphemus, welcomes Odysseus and crew into his home (cave). Polyphemus plot was to bring people to his home, feed them, give them a potent wine that cause them to fall asleep and finally he would eat them. Oydsseus saw the bones lying about when they entered and became uneasy. After the crew wined and dined they fell asleep (except Odysseus) and Polyphemus put his plan into effect, but Odysseus woke the others in an attempt to escape only to be stopped by the large door blocking the entrance. Polyphemus, seeing the his dinner was fleeing started to grab and eat them. Odysseus used rope to trip the cyclops and distract him. While the cyclops was distracted Odysseus and his remaining crew took a large branch from the nearby fire and got Polyphemus to back into a wall and they made him drink his own tainted wine. They grabbed the red-hot branch and rammed him in his only eye with it destroying his sight.Prior to this Odysseus had told him (Polyphemus) that his name was 'Nobody'. As the crew are running to the ship Polyphemus begins to call out the his fellow giants but no one bothers with him because he claims 'Nobody' blinded him. He begins to hurl boulders at the ship and gives up only to pray to his father, Poseidon, who curses the rest of Odysseus' voyage.

How does Odysseus first outwit the Cyclops?

He used a codeword, that translates in English rather nicely: "Nobody". He was invisible, and he was taunting Polyphemus the cyclopes with that name and stabbed him on the eye. This made the cyclopes disintegrate and was seen no more.

Who is polyphemus in The Odyssey?

Polyphemus is a one eyed giant (cyclops). He traps Odysseus and his crew in his cave andattempts to eat all of them but only got away with eating a few. Odsseus tricked polyphemus into drinking a sleeping potion/drink and polyphemus feel alseep. As he was asleep Odysseus and the rest of his escaped. AS they got into their boat, polyphemus relaized they were escaping and tried to throw a large boulder at their ship but failed. In the Robert Fitzgerald version, the story goes like this- Polyphemos (how it is spelled in this edition) trapped Odysseus and some of his men in his cave that he and his sheep lived in. Odysseus introduced himself as 'Nobody'. He would push aside the heavy boulder (that only he could push) that kept them in to allow the sheep to graze, and so he could go outside, but rolled the boulder back so Odysseus and his men couldn't escape. When he came back and let the sheep in, he would eat some of Odysseus's men. Odysseus made a plan to escape be taking a long branch and hardening it in a fire, which he and his men poked Polyphemos's eye, blinding him. Polyphemos cried out to the other kyklopes (cyclopes), but none of them came because he said that "Nobody has hurt me!" making the other kyklopes think that he meant 'Nobody' as in 'no person', rather than a name. In the morning, Polyphemos led the sheep out by feeling their wool as they walked out, to make sure that Odysseus and his men couldn't escape. Odysseus strapped his men to the undersides of the sheep, and hung onto a sheep himself so they could get out but not be felt. Odysseus and his men got to their ship and cast off, but Odysseus called out to the kyklopes, and alerted him that they had escaped. Polyphemos threw boulders at them, and Odysseus taunted him further when the boulders didn't hit them. Polyphemos then cursed they, praying to Posieden (his father, I think) for all of Odysseus's men to die so he would return to Ithaka alone, or for at least the journey to take a very long time.

Odysseus battled Polyphemus by giving him wine. This made the huge cyclopes very drunk because in ancient times wine was much more potent. Then, the cyclopes toppled over and went to sleep. What mistake does odyyseus make while he and his men flee the cave?

Though Odysseus had told the cyclops his name was "Nhbdy" (sounds like "nobody" so when another cyclops asked the initial cyclops who had his eye pierced and he replied "Nbdhy did this to me", a move Odysseus used in order to cleverly save himself form punishment), when he was safe in his ship he made the arrogant mistake of announcing his real name to the cyclops in a pointless, prideful gesture, and therefore ticked off Poseidon. Or I think that's how it went...I'd double-check if I were you.
