Why might a government increase employment opportunities?

if the country has a high unemployment rate, then it probably also has a lot of people living in poverty, or on their way there, as they aren't earning any money. By creating employment opportunities, the government decreases the unemployment rate, and therefore decreases the amount of starving people, or even just the amount of poor people, in the country

Employment is seen as a solution to several issues - for individuals, families, and society as a whole. It keeps individuals usefully occupied, gives them a stake in society, gives them money to provide for themselves+others etc.

I'll just give the points for the answer : If the government increases employment opportunities the people will start earning. When people earn , they spend. The rise in spending of the consumers will lead to a rise in the GDP , and ultimately the taxes . Those taxes can be used by the government for public welfare purposes, they could build a school or a hospital etc. Secondly this increase in production and income results an increase in economic growth which gives a lot of benefits such as improvement in living standard. Moreover, this helps to achieve government aims of full employment, economic growth and positive results to the balance of payment. And also increase demand for goods and services . And honestly I am a O2 student ( 2nd year of O level / Cambridge ) and I can provide a better answer than the "top answer" . Like Honestly.
