Africans believe in the Village model. With this model, the whole village raise the children and not only the parents. People live in Villages and are aligned to each other. people know everyone and call them by their first names. This concept has brought Africans together wherever they find themselves. The extended family means every relation is treated as part of one big family. In accordance with the Village model, we draw nearer to each other. That is why you may find about ten people living in one room without quarreling about it. It is a practice which is ingrained in our minds as Africans. That we are our brothers keeper. Living in the America's and Europe's has changed the mindset for some people. And that is where you will find a lonely African. When he adopts the nucleus family idea, he lives a lonely life.

Some children in extended families do well with that arrangement while others do less well. It depends on which extended family you are, f the relatives are bad, annoying, cruel you feel unhappy, but if they are good you feel good, happy, trusted. It is much they same with children living in isolated nuclear families.

Both. Most middle-income, urban families are composed of both parents and one or two children. Lower income, such as rural and "blue collar" families, include the extended family under the same roof.

What does a typical family look like in France?

French women have an average of 2 children. A typical houselhold would then be along the 2 + 2 structure, parents plus children. Living with extended families (cousins, uncles, grandparents) is rather uncommon. On the other hand, France has a divorce or separation rate comparable to other developed countries, so many children live in single-parent families.
