because sandstone is a porous media meaning it have a lot of pores then mud filtrate (its water) can enter the rock but the solids of the mud cant hence mud cake form.
shale is a porous media too but its pores not connected together so mud cant enter the shale and mud cake don't form.
Because sandstone has wider particles than shale and this let's the water through.

Sandstone is composed of grains of weathered rock. Limestone is the skeletal remains of countless shelled creatures. Both took many centuries and much compression to form into a sedimentary rock. Limestone was frequent in Italy (that's why there are statues from it there) whereas sandstone was frequent in central Europe which caused the existence many statues from it there. Sculptors in Italy did not suffer from lung silicosis when compared with the artists in central Europe. Also the statues in Italy did not suffer from acid rains.
If the sandstone is below the basalt layer, it is older. Though caution is advised, to make sure it is really a basalt layer and not an intrusion of gabbro. Other indicators that the sandstone is older is evidence of alteration to the sandstone where the two meet (called a "baked contact") and pieces of sandstone being found in the the basalt.

Make a layered cake, with each layer representing a layer of the canyon. pick different kinds of cake that look like shale, sandstone, limestone, etc.
Because sandstone has wider particles than shale and this let's the water through.
They are considerably larger particles.
metamorphic rocks change form after being subjected to certain climates and humidity. Shale make up 60 per cent of the sedimentary rocks and metamorphism in shale is very common with the biggest diversity. Shale most commonly becomes slate.
== == == == == == The cap rock on a coal bed is usually a sedimentary rock, (i.e. shale sandstone etc.) but not always shale. Slate is a metamorphic rock, usually derived from shale that has been exposed to high pressures and temperatures over very long periods of time. Ways to tell the difference between slate and shale: Slate will have a smooth surface, and possible have light glare at a right angle. Shale will have a dull, sandy surface. Tap them against something hard. Slate will make a "clink" noise, almost like porcelain or ceramic, where shale will make a "thud" sound. Rub it against your teeth. Slate will be smooth, shale will be gritty. == == == ==
it is a course-graind sediment and it belongs to the group of sediments that make up sedimentary rocks. Sand makes sandstones.
Shale rocks turn into clay. The pressure make shale into clay.
Cake foundation is a type of make up foundation that comes in the form of a rounded or square cake. The make up is generally applied with a sponge rather than a brush.
red sandstone
Slate and shale have the same make-up. Slate is formed from sedimentary shale by pressure and heat. Wet shale has the same smell that wet slate has.
I think women would rather like to make a cake from scratch unless they don't like baking.
You can have apple pie or perhaps you would rather have cake.
