Are all mutations passed on to your children?

No, not all mutations are passed on to children. Mutations can occur in the DNA of reproductive cells (eggs and sperm) and if they are present in those cells, they can be passed on to the next generation. However, most mutations occur in non-reproductive cells and are not passed on to offspring.

What kind of mutations will always be passed to offspring in the gametes or reproductive cells of organisms?

All characteristics were at some point mutations. Successful genetic mutations that are present in a parent in the homozygous form willl always be transmitted into the gametes. Whether the offspring will have the characteristic phenotypically hinges ont the genetics of both parents and which alleles are in the fertilized egg.

Why cant mutation in a human cell be passed to an offspring?

It is all dependent on where the mutation takes place. If, for example, there is a mutation in one of your skin cells, this will not be passed on to the offspring. This is because in order to pass it on to the offspring the mutation has to be present in the offspring itself. Since the offspring is created from the egg and sperm of the parents, the skin cell has nothing to do with the offspring. But if there was a mutation in the egg or the sperm, there would be some sort of mutation found in the offpspring.

All copies of the single parent's genes are passed to the offspring?

Parthenogenesis.

What are inherited trait?

An inherited trait is a charateristic passed from parents to offspring.

True False All mutations can be passed on from a parent to an offspring?

Only mutations which occur in the gametes. Mutations in somatic cells ( body) are not passed on to offspring. Example: A mutation in skin cells leads to skin cancer, but this cannot be passed on to offspring.

What is the difference between somatic and gametic cells?

a germline mutation is one the was passed on to offspring because the egg or sperm cell was mutated. a somatic mutation is a mutation of the somatic cells (all cells except sex cells) that cannot be passed on to offspring.

Why are somatic mutations generally less important than germ mutations?

Because the somatic mutation only produces the color of the iris of the eye. The germ mutation is in charge of the cell which will produce a gamete. It may be passed onto the offspring. So the somatic mutation isn't as important as the germ mutation.

Are all mutations bad.?

No not all mutations are bad there are good mutations and bad mutations

What was lamarcks hypothesis about how species change?

Lamarck's hypothesis about evolution was that animals would change based on their environment during their lifetime and pass on those traits to their offspring. This is different from Darwin's theory in that all animals mutate in someway and it's the surviving mutations that pass on that slowly change the animal over many generations.

What does het mean in snakes?

It means 'Heterozygous' - Put simply, it means a snake carries the genes of two possible 'mutations' and it's offspring can develop either of the traits.

What kinds of mutations are most likely to be passed on to the offspring?

Sometimes there are diseases, but some mutations that i have heard of are conjoined twins, i once saw in a book of a person with their cheek just PUFFED out, umm.... some newborns just die, some have mental and other disorders, some come with more or less limbs and\or fingers and toes, hermaphrodites (both male and female), and a few others. But do not be sure that you will have one, they are all very unlikely.
