Why on your 1997 Buick park avenue does the oil pressure gauge drop to 0 on take offs after about 15 miles of driving but then goes right back to normal after about 5 seconds?

Can be a few things.
1. Bad oil pressure sensor.
2. Low oil pressure from either oil pump going bad or dirty oil/filter.
3. Wrong viscosity of oil used.

I, like many other people, am having the same issue. Come to find out - it's a faulty oil pressure relief valve. The valves get stuck in the open position, allowing the pressure to read normal while driving or reving, but losing pressure when stopped at idle.

My 1992 PA with a 3.8 engine has a a 195 degree thermostat. This causes the normal engine temperature to be about 205 degrees. The pressure cap will keep the fluid from boiling up to about 240 degrees.
