William Penn brought the Quakers to the colonies because he was prevented from following his religion and kept getting arrested. When his father died the king owed money to the Penn family. Instead money Penn took a land grant from the king to settle the debt. This is how Pennsylvania was established. The 60 Pilgrams that arrived in 1620 wanted to separate from other religions so they could practice their particular type of religion. Yet, Jamestown was not established because of religion , but as an investment to look for gold. About 60% of the colonist never attended church services or came for religion freedom.
