Marie Antoinette was hated by her people because she was:

1. a gambler
2. an alcoholic
3. a big party person
4. she didn't care when her people where in trouble (no money trouble)

5. She was often "loud" and "uncouth" according to French standards. ( The French standards were grace and etiquette)

Marie was hated by her people, firstly because they wasn't French, she was Austrian, and also because she always threw big parties and balss, not caring how much they costed. she had an arranged marriage with Louis, who was the complete opposite person to her. she was 'sold off' to France at such an early age, and to a husband who was cold and unresponsive, although they did grow to love each other. She had no concept of the real world, and acted like the foolish young girl she was - throwing grand parties, and acting in stage performances, setting up her own village in the grounds of her Petit Trianon.

and can i just say that she never actually said the fampus quote everyone knows her for- 'let them eat cake', she was just misquoted. She grew up eating Brioche - which is a sweet bread. When told the people were starving, she said why don't they eat bread (and as the only bread she was used to was cake-like) she was misquoted.
